3 Heartwarming Story From Indonesia in April 2026 : Elder Train Porter, A Loyal Cat, and A Junior School Student Who Returned to School

Indonesia is a country known for its diversity. These three story shows how a simple story can touch the hearts of many people in Indonesia.

1. Elder Train Porter

The train porter service is a service that assists passengers with their luggage, both when boarding or after disembarking and leaving the station. Although there are official porters employed by Indonesian railway companies (KAI), there are also some unofficial porters who work independently or in partnerships.

Unnoficial porters does not receive a monthly salary, and earns a entirely random salary through tips from passengers. There's no official fee, but most of them are paid on a voluntary basis ranging from 10.000 -30.000 Rupiah (0.6-2 US$) if only few luggage and 50.000 Rupiah (3 US$) or more if carrying a lot of luggage.

These first story comes from instagram post of Hijab influencer @nmalinda_ (original post here). The post showing video of an elderly man in a red shirt who work as unofficial porter in Bandung Station.

She explained in the post description translated : "I’ve started taking rides from offline motorcycle taxis, using porters, taking a rickshaws, and buying snacks from vendors with few customers, etc. They’re just trying to make a living, not to get rich. Even if it’s not much, at least they get some income from our kindness."

The narration in the short videos showing "Waiting for train suddenly noticing a porter who's waiting someone who need his services". Then followed with another "Looking at the other porter who's already carrying a suitcase".

The video shows that the elder porter man with flat facial expression, waiting someone to to use his services. He was looking aroung to another porter who was already carrying a suitcase.

Then, the video highlighting how the elder porter man's smiled when he got called by a customer wich is the video's poster. With enthusiasm and alacrity, the porter man carrying the customer's luggage onto the train.

There's also a naration that showing how the porter only received one call a day or none at all. And then also showed that the man bowed so many times as a gratitude for using his services.

The video then ended with closing narration "Normalize using porter even though carrying small luggage, because even though they using suit, they didnt get paid. Please be healthy sir". The content creator urges us to recognize the value of porters’ services, since, as railway partners, they are not officialy paid and only rely from customers tip.

On another social media post, TikTok of @nrmalinda_, theres someone who claims that the man is her father and saying thank you to the original posters. Many people are praying that the man stays healthy and that his livelihood is made easier.

2. The Doctor's Cat

The second story comes from TikTok originaly posted by @drh.billa.kirana, who tells the story of her beloved cat, who has been by her side from childhood until she became a veterinarian. In her post, she uploaded several photo slides showing her relationship with her cat (find original post here).

The sadness of the story highlights how words can become prayers, because how she said to her cat to stay by her side until she become veterinarian, so she can be her cat personal doctor. But in the end the cat has died just as she already become a veterinarian.

In the post description, she ask herself why did she only ask the cat to accompany her to become a doctor? Why don’t stay with her forever? Then she thanked the cat and hoping if reincarnation exists, she hoped the cat to be reborn as her child.

In some photo slide, showing how the poster's accompanied by her cat for 13 years. Starting from young kitten, the cat grown up, then the cat moved to her dorm in college, and accoompany her earning her bachelor's degree. Followed by the next photo of her becoming veterinarian, the cat go to work with her, until finally the cat left her.

At the last 2nd slide, shown photo of the cat with closed eyes, with narration "you've become a great doctor, my job is done. I'm leaving ok!?". Ended with a photo of her holding her cat with sad expression. 

A little context, Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest levels of cat love in the world, according to data from Rakuten Insight Global via Seasia. The story has touched the hearts of many netizens who related to the woman's feeling.

Because cats have such short lifespans, their presence may be just a small moment in a human’s life. But for a cat raised from kittenhood until they passed, the human who raised them, it is a cat's whole world.

3. A Dropped Out Junior High School Students

This story comes from the original poster of the class Instagram account @8imazing. Shows a farewell video of a student named Ikhsan to his classmates in one of West Java Province junior high school (original post here).

The video shows a Junior student named Ikhsan shaking hands with his classmates, with description post translated: "Good luck, Ikhsan. May success always be with you. Don’t forget the memories we shared through thick and thin. See you next time and don’t forget each other good bye"

The story shared from various account stated that Ikhsan decied to drop out from school because he want to support his family economy condition with becoming full time cart food seller. The school officials and parents has tried to persuade Ikhsan to stay in school, but the difficult economic conditions strengthened his decission to drop out of school.

The story went viral in social media because a lot of Ikhsan's friends also spoke out help from the local government. In today's rapidly changeing world, education has important role to  serves as the cornerstone of the development of an individual’s character, skills, and mindset.

The act of solidarity from Ikhsan's friends, gaining sympathy and attracting the attention of province authorities. With the help of West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, They managed to persuade and convince Ikhsan to come back to school.
